SCPL wishes to thank Steve Knightley and Stockland’s other Asset of Community Value – Wendy!
Folk legend Steve Knightley performed a wonderful gig on 5th October in St Michaels and All Angels Church, for the benefit of SCPL and the rebirth of the Kings Arms Inn. It was good to see the church packed, and the acoustics of the place added to the atmosphere of what was a very special night in Stockland.
Steve spoke very eloquently from the heart about the loss of pubs in the South West, and the memories he has of them. The Kings Arms is a special place for Steve, as he used to use it as a kind of retreat when he wanted to relax and write new songs. Needless to say, he is greatly looking forward to coming back when the pub re-opens!
Thanks to Steve’s generosity, Wendy’s hard work, and a kind donation of £40 from a member of the public, the whole event raised £972.10 for SCPL – a great boost to our coffers.
We are truly blessed with talented people in our community, and Wendy is a real asset to Stockland and Honiton because of her enthusiasm and her network of performing artists and bands. She brings acts from around the world into the area, and her work at the Beehive has added greatly to the cultural life of the wider district, and long may this continue!
