Winter Update from the SCPL Management Committee and Volunteers Required

Members Meetings February 2023

We would like to thank all our members who turned out on a dark February night to support SCPL at the Annual Members and Special Members Meetings on the 8th of February.  We were very pleased to see that these meetings continue to have a strong attendance of around 60-70 people.  Co-incidentally this number of people fit comfortably into the skittle alley at the Kings Arms. Consequently, we will aim to hold our 2024 meeting at the Kings Arms and will work through the logistics with Ben to make this happen.

What happens next? The business of the meetings was completed with all of the resolutions and committee elections being passed unanimously by those present. The minutes and presentations from the meetings have now been posted on the SCPL website and can be viewed here, along with the latest set of accounts:

Officers Elected and Secretary appointed

Following the AMM the Management Committee met and confirmed the officers of the society for the coming year as Phil Burnett – Chair, Jo Ash – Vice Chair and Andy Kippax as Treasurer. Sheelagh Dawes was re-appointed as Secretary.

With the passing of the resolution to adopt the latest set of governance rules, the committee has started the formal process of submitting our application to adopt the new rules to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and has started work on drafting the policies relating to share capital withdrawal and disputes. It is expected to complete this work by the middle of the year at which time we will inform the membership and post the new governance rules and policies on the SCPL website.

Volunteers Needed!

As mentioned in the AMM, SCPL in conjunction with Ben are planning some maintenance and building improvement works. First up is some work on the steps from the car park and the installation of a new drop-off point to give improved access to the pub. This work is due to start in the next couple of weeks. If any of the members with building skills would like to volunteer to help with these works, please contact us at  contact@scpl.org.uk .

Many thanks again for your continued support of SCPL and The Kings Arms!
