We have lived through turbulent times since March, and SCPL has had to deal with unexpected challenges! After the virtual Annual Members Meeting in February, the Management Committee met to elect their officers for the next year. Brian Johnson is Chair, Phil Burnett is Vice-Chair …
This is the home of Stockland Community Pub Limited (SCPL). SCPL is a Registered Society for the benefit of the community with over 270 members, and we are the proud owners of The Kings Arms Inn, Stockland in Devon. The pub is now open once again, thanks to the efforts of the local community and the wonderful team led by our tenant Ben Walker!
All the latest news about what is happening at the Kings Arms, and the food drink and accommodation on offer can be found on the Facebook page here:
The Kings Arms Inn was acquired by SCPL in January 2019, after a six year campaign to bring the pub into community ownership. The pub re-opened in January 2020, following a year long restoration by local volunteers and skilled tradesmen, with the generous support of individuals and businesses in East Devon and further afield.
Community ownership will ensure the pub remains the hub of the village for the enjoyment and well-being of locals and visitors alike, both now and for future generations to come.
The pub is a free house that serves local and guest beers and sensibly priced, freshly cooked, good food prepared using locally sourced ingredients, and benefits from having three double-letting rooms for visitors.
It is the heart of the village as a place for social gathering, cultural activities, somewhere to meet people and exchange information, and it will continue to promote a cohesive and friendly community in the area.
The Management Committee of SCPL is responsible for the affairs of the Society and currently has nine elected members.
The Tenants are responsible for the day to day business of the pub, and the Committee will continue to encourage them to work with community groups and clubs, to provide musical and other cultural events, and ensure that the pub is an inclusive and safe space for everyone – a true hub at the centre of the village.
