The Kings Arms Is Back Again!

The pub opened on Friday 15 March for evening drinks and complementary canapes. This was followed by a full dining service on Saturday and Sunday.

There is still more decoration and tidying up  to do before all the public spaces are open for service but  Andrew our tenant is working hard with his team and local volunteers to gradually get the pub fully opened.

This means that opening hours will be limited until the pub is 100% ready.

This weeks opening hours will be as follows:

Monday to Wednesday: closed (still a lot to do, skittle alley, front garden)

Thursday: 5pm – 10pm (kitchen 5.30pm – 9pm)

Friday: 5pm: – 10pm (kitchen 5.30pm – 9pm)

Saturday: 12pm – 10pm (kitchen 12pm – 2.30pm/5.30pm – 9pm)

Sunday: 12pm – 7pm (kitchen 12pm – 4pm)

The menus evolve with the seasons ensuring the freshest ingredients, locally sourced where possible.

The Kings Arms Inn was acquired by SCPL in January 2019, after a six year campaign to bring the pub into community ownership. The pub  re-opened in January 2020, following a year long restoration by local volunteers and skilled tradesmen, with the generous support of individuals and businesses in East Devon and further afield.

Community ownership will ensure the pub remains the hub of the village for the enjoyment and well-being of locals and visitors alike, both now and for future generations to come.

The pub is a free house that serves local and guest beers and sensibly priced, freshly cooked, good food prepared using locally sourced ingredients, and benefits from having three double-letting rooms for visitors.

It is the heart of the village as a place for social gathering, cultural activities, somewhere to meet people and exchange information, and it will continue to promote a cohesive and friendly community in the area.

The Management Committee of SCPL is responsible for the affairs of the Society and currently has nine elected members.

The Tenants are responsible for the day to day business of the pub, and the Committee will continue to encourage them to work with community groups and clubs, to provide musical and other cultural events, and ensure that the pub is an inclusive and safe space for everyone –  a true hub at the centre of the village.
