SCPL Summer Update for members
We hope you all enjoyed the recent Platinum Jubilee weekend. If you were at the Sunday street party and follow-up music at the Kings Arms, you saw firsthand the crucial role that the pub plays at the hub of the village for events like these. The Management Committee would like to thank you again for your continued support of Stockland Community Pub Limited (SCPL) and the team at the King Arms under Ben’s excellent leadership.
It’s been a while since we last posted on this blog and we thought it would be a fitting time to give you an update on SCPL activities.
Annual Members Meeting
On 16th March 2022 we held our first in-person Annual Members Meeting since the end of lockdown and were pleased to welcome 45 members to the Victory Hall for a convivial evening aided by a barrel of Otter. The official business included acceptance of the financial resolutions and elections to the Management Committee. The slides used and minutes of the meeting are posted on the SCPL website at this link for you to review if you wish.
Management Committee
Following the re-election of Jane Yates, the management committee confirmed officers for the coming 12 months. All the existing officers continue in their roles with Brian Johnson as chair, Phil Burnett as vice-chair, Andy Kippax as treasurer and Sheelagh Dawes as secretary. Members are encouraged to step forward to help manage SCPL and the committee is always happy to talk about the role.
Buildings Management and Maintenance
Our annual inspection was carried out on 16th May and apart from a few minor maintenance issues we are pleased to report that the buildings and grounds are in excellent condition and in some cases considerably improved through investment by the tenants. We continue to work with Ben and the team to see how we can further improve the “Kings Arms Experience”.
Sharing Memories of Peter Maitland
Finally, as many of you know, the late Peter Maitland was instrumental in driving the efforts to save the Kings Arms. Peter was well known throughout the parish, and he served as Chair and vice-Chair of SCPL, Chair of the Fair Committee, and a very able Parish Councillor. When Peter passed away in 2019, he left money for his friends to enjoy a party in his memory. Three years later in May 2022, the time was right – and what a party we had in the Kings Arms! Friends from as far away as the Falkland Islands, Scotland and Ireland joined us in Stockland for a night of celebration with music, great food and drink, and many good memories.
Have a great summer and see you at the Kings Arms and look out for the next news update in the Autumn!
Issued on behalf of the SCPL Management Committee.
