Happy Easter from SCPL

Easter news

Management Committee

We are delighted to announce that local retired businessman John Vickery has recently been co-opted onto the management committee.   This is a welcome boost to our numbers at this very busy time.

Renovation

The second Listed Building Consent from East Devon District Council was received this week.  We can now go ahead and repair the water damage from March 2018 and prepare the kitchen for renovation.  Electrical and plumbing work is already underway.  Despite information received before the purchase that the thatch was in an acceptable condition, we now know it is going to need extensive work.  We have booked a thatcher for May and will also use the attendant scaffolding to repair the slate roof on the rear east wing.  Naturally this has a financial impact and we are monitoring the situation closely as costs for other pieces of work become more definite.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude to ALL volunteers who have contributed to the renovation.  You know who you are – naming individuals will always leave someone thinking “Why didn’t they mention me?” !!

Volunteer help allows us to reduce costs significantly and is very welcome.  There is plenty of opportunity to help still, please contact contact@scpl.org.uk if you can spare time, tools, materials etc.

Rogue Python found hiding in the floor!!!

Not a constrictor from South America but the pipe containing the lines that deliver drinks from the cellar to the bar.  This needs to be replaced.  One individual is so keen to hasten the flow of real ale he has spent two weekends with a jackhammer digging through reinforced concrete trying to locate the beast in question!

Search for a tenant

The search for a tenant has progressed significantly and we hope to make an announcement soon.
