Behind the scenes at the Kings Arms Inn, Stockland

Those readers who regularly pass through the village will be aware of the activity around the pub as the rethatching progresses and other work is carried out.

This week we take a peek behind the scenes and focus on a painstaking project carried out by Ted (left) and Andrew (right) who have spent hours assessing the lovely old wooden settles, chairs and tables and bringing each one back to life.  The old varnish first has to be carefully scraped back to expose the wood, which is then carefully sanded and given a covering of protective oil.

As both our volunteers lead busy lives, the work is carried out as and when they can spare a few hours, but it is obvious to all of us that they put a lot of love and effort into this work – thanks guys!
