SCPL Announce Date of Annual Members Meeting

We are pleased to announce that the next Annual Members Meeting (AMM) for the Society will be held in Stockland Victory Hall on Thursday 7th February 2019. In previous years, our AMMs have been limited to members of the Management Committee, as we had no shareholders.  The meeting in February will be the first AMM to which we can invite all those who have become members by virtue of their investment in shares. We very much hope to see many of you attend.

Members can expect to receive further details in the next few weeks.

Refreshing the Management Committee

Our Society rules stipulate that all members of the existing Management Committee must step down at the AMM of 7th February, to be replaced by a Committee elected by the full membership of the Society. Those Committee members stepping down are eligible to nominate themselves for re-election. With over 270 members of the Society, a significant number of whom live far afield, the current Committee has decided that a formal ballot of members will be used to elect the new Committee prior to the AMM. The results of the election will then be announced at the AMM.

We will be publishing the full details of the election process during the next few weeks, including the self-nomination form for any members who wish to be included on the ballot paper. We ask all our members to give some serious thought as to whether you would like to serve on the Committee – we would very much welcome new members with fresh ideas and enthusiasm! Do feel free to speak to any of the existing Committee members in confidence if you have questions.

Moving Towards Exchange of Contracts

The legal documentation is not quite ready yet, and we are currently in the process of VAT registration.  We are still working hand in hand with Horatio Properties and there is much work going on in the background between the two legal teams as we move towards exchange of contracts. Our number one consideration is to safeguard the investments made by our members, so please be patient!

Alongside that, we continue to consider the best way forward for renovation of the pub and we have applied for a Premises Licence in the name of the Society.  One of the team has recently attended the required training course needed to obtain a Personal Licence, and will undertake the role of Designated Premises Supervisor when we actually acquire the pub.
